An Inspirational Solar Pyramid
Artists Richard Lester Swain and Adam Walkden along with a team of engineers, designers, astronomers and planners have combined art with technology to build the worlds largest solar pyramid. The giant sun dial is supposed to represent time, space and solar energy. The artists were inspired by a sundial set in the wall of the ancient St. Mary’s Church at the top of the 199 steps in Whitby. Here are a quote from the Whitby Gazette.
Mr Swain said: “I was inspired by a sundial set in the wall of St Mary’s Church at the top of the 199 steps in Whitby” and “On it is inscribed ‘Our lives pass like a shadow’. That gave me the idea of a timepiece worked by the sun that would be the world’s largest.”
